Description

BAD GIRLS GROOVE
1. Fresh from putting the final touches to their new EP on Breaking Records the gorgeous Bad Girls + their full 5-piece band are planning some shows to set your toes tapping. After their success earlier this year on the festival circuit - including the St Louis Festival in Sete, S.France and the world renowned Cork Guinness Jazz Festival - the Bads are bringing their lively show to venues all over London and beyond.. You can expect some soulful, bluesy sounds including songs by Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Alicia Keys, Aretha, Etta James and Sharon Jones plus some originals featured on their EP. Each Bad Girl has a unique voice and presentation and when they sing in harmony – oh my !!! Will it be funky? You bet! And F.U.N.? Guaranteed! Don’t miss.

3. More details about the band,
Bad Girls Groove are truly a special band – each singer can – and does ! – sing both lead and backing vocals, and each musician has a story to tell . There’s no space for a complete history but by way of example, Emily Francis who graduated from London College of Music in 2011 has worked with a multitude of different musicians and artists and appeared at many prestigious festivals and venues including Shepherds Bush Empire, Oxford Jazz Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, and Ealing Jazz Festival. As well as playing keyboards for the Bads, Emily also plays great alto sax, sings, teaches and writes and records music for her highly regarded jazz trio https://emilyfrancistrio.com/ Whew !!

Sophie Ray, one of the Bad Girls, studied music at the University of Nottingham. Her soul-influenced songs are a far cry from her classical roots Sophie has played venues such as The O2 Academy Islington, St Pancras Old Church, and Brownstock. and looks forward to doing her funky thing at the Pizza Express. As well as singing, Sophie composes, plays keyboards and can sometimes be persuaded to accompany herself singing all 5 octaves of Minnie Riperton’s “Lovin’You” !
The mysterious Mr.T (sax and percussion) whose formal music education is a BA in Jazz Studies and an MA in Electro – Acoustic Composition. His first band Burlesque were signed to Arista Records in 1976, and produced two albums ‘Acupuncture’ and ‘Burlesque’.. He has played with Ginger Baker - enough said!
Roger (leader and guitarist) , on the other hand, has not been to any music colleges or universities – in fact he was thrown out of Nottingham University for “wasting his time and tax payers money playing in a rock band…”. . He has however spent many years with his ears clamped to the radio listening to the likes of Roberts Johnson and Cray and travelling the wastelands, dancehalls and honky-tonks of Texas and Louisiana in search of Magical Music…so to make up for his very Bad Behaviour he always drafts a really cracking setlist including something old (think Bill Withers and Lynda Lyndell), something new (think Jill Scott) borrowed (think Sly) and definitely something blue – (think Aretha and Slim Harpo)
4. Band members Roger Bolt – leader and guitar;Mr.T – tenor sax and percussion; Emily Francis – keys and vocals; Jono Helsby – drums;Trev Boxall – bass; Sophie Ray, Leigh Hayward, Susana Soriano , Emily “Ginge” Luke- Taylor – the Bad Girls - on vocals. (The band has a fully qualified sound engineer and state of the art PA system with wireless microphones)

8. Press quote “Just to say this truly excellent band has 4 girl singers, backed by a funk machine of sax, keys, bass, drums and guitar. They were a massive hit in Cork at the Guinness Jazz Festival and can be found playing regularly at prestigious London venues such as the Blues Kitchen and Boisdale. Catch them while you can !!” The List

I work with this great band on several levels including liaison with clients and venues. Here's a typical piece of feedback from a satisfied groom after a recent wedding show in London, "You guys were fantastic last night. Thanks so much. We feel very lucky to have had you play. Please pass our thanks to the rest of the band, we had such a great evening and the music was perfect". And here is a YouTube comment "Superb. A hidden gem. Tremendous performance from the heart. Well done all of you. Saw them in Cork at the Guinness Festival" I have plenty more and all of a similar nature .
